Based on ACM Code of Ethics

This Code of Conduct is aligned with the ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, which all ACM members are expected to uphold.

1. Purpose

The LGU ACM Student Chapter is committed to providing a harassment-free, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members, participants, speakers, and guests regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, or technical ability.

2. Expected Behavior

All chapter members and event participants are expected to:

  • Be respectful and considerate in all communications and interactions
  • Welcome and support people of all backgrounds and identities
  • Listen actively and respectfully to different viewpoints
  • Give credit where it is due and respect intellectual property
  • Focus on what is best for the community and individual growth
  • Show empathy and kindness toward other members

3. Unacceptable Behavior

The following behaviors are considered unacceptable:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form
  • Offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, race, or religion
  • Inappropriate physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
  • Disruptive behavior during events, talks, or meetings
  • Plagiarism or misrepresentation of work
  • Sharing private information without explicit permission

4. Event-Specific Guidelines

During Workshops & Technical Events:

  • • Respect the speaker's time and expertise
  • • Ask questions respectfully and allow others to participate
  • • Provide constructive feedback when requested

During Competitions & Hackathons:

  • • Follow all competition rules and guidelines
  • • Work ethically and avoid cheating or plagiarism
  • • Support and encourage fellow participants

Online Interactions:

  • • Be professional in all digital communications
  • • Respect privacy and confidentiality
  • • Avoid spam and off-topic content

5. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the chapter organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:

  • • Warning the individual
  • • Expulsion from the event without refund (if applicable)
  • • Temporary or permanent ban from future chapter activities
  • • Reporting to university authorities if necessary
  • • Revoking chapter membership

6. Reporting Violations

If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please report it as soon as possible:

All reports will be handled with discretion and confidentiality. We are committed to ensuring a safe environment for all.

7. Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all chapter spaces (both physical and digital), including but not limited to: meetings, workshops, hackathons, social events, email communications, social media, and any other chapter-related activities.

By participating in LGU ACM Chapter activities, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.
